The Alpujarra’s gastronomy has been influenced by the Arabs. Nonetheless, one of the most known products in the Alpujarra is the ham that is made in Trevelez. Those hams are known for their quality, taste and shape.

As a curious fact, in 1862, the queen Isabella II, recognised the quality of those hams and she ordered to mark them, so it was posible distinguish the hams from the false ones. Also, t hose hams were used as a way of paying political favours in the Alpujarra.

However, ham is not only the most common product in the Alpujarra. Also the “El plato alpujarreño” or “Las migas” are well known and delicious. Moreover, we can taste wonderful dishes like stews or pastries like "Pestiños".
